Michael: Gabby Giffords Kicks Off CD 8 Bid

Gabby has finally announced her official campaign launch. As widely expected, the guest of honor at that event will be Congressman Raul Grijalva. With Gabby's money (she just announced clearing her first 250K - I doubt if any of her rivals for the nomination can boast even half of that), her DLC and Party connections, and now with Grijalva apparently in her camp, Gabby is presenting a fairly convincing image of inevitability.

She recently sent out invitations to her launch party:

I would like to invite you to join Congressman Raúl Gríjalva and other supporters at our official campaign kickoff, which will begin at 10 a.m. on Jan. 24 at the Arizona Inn, 2200 East Elm Street. This will be followed by a 12:30 p.m. event in Green Valley at the American Legion Post, 1560 W Duval Mine Road in Sahuarita and some other stops around our district over subsequent days.

The campaign headquarters at 5704 E. Broadway in Tucson will be open by Feb. 1. Please stop by anytime to share your thoughts on issues. And of course I’d love to have you roll up your sleeves and add your talents to our effort. (emphasis added)

I could throw out a few well-worn platatudes at this point - there's many a slip 'twixt cup and lip, don't count your chickens before they hatch, ad nauseum - but the brutal fact is that unless Gabby's competitors start making a much bigger noises, Gabby will be the nominee walking away. I hope the candidate forums will generate some noise, but I doubt it - they never do. The other candidates need to choose some issues, which Gabby can't co-opt, that are highly media-genic and start beating that drum like a red-headed step-child, or they are going to get burried under Gabby's avalanche of CW and march of endorsements.

I wonder how everyone will feel when she reports her FEC funds are much lower then she has expressed to the media.

I'll be suprised if she really has raised $250k. Pledges don't count at the FEC.

God help us! Just what we need, another Republican turned Democrat that won't fight for truth.

Yes. She used to be a Republican. I don't know how long ago she switched parties but it was at least pre-2000 when she ran for office as a Democrat.
E-mail her and ask her yourself.

I can't believe that she would fudge those numbers. Gabby is an honest, hardworking politician with lots of integrity. I expect a mea culpa from the dude who said that he'd be surprised if she raised 250k when the report comes out.

About Gabby's switch from R to D... she'll tell you upfront that when she was young voting was as far as she got with politics. She probably registered as a republican becuase it was popular with her friends at the time. Since she's been in the legislature she's had a solid record on health care, education, choice, the environment, civil liberties, ect. In short, she's been on the proper side with every issue. It's the mindless sqabbling rather than attention to the stuff that really matters that keeps our party from winning more often!

Some anonymous person is going around posting this stuff about Gabby everywhere, that she is really a Republican, or used to be one...maybe...at some time...no details available...

This is just pure smear tactics. If it was true, they could give details. It is in the public record. If it was true, would she have such firm and widespread support from the horde of Democratic activists that are working for her campaign? Would Grijalva endorse her?

I was the owner of Peace Works here in Tucson. My family and I have been central figures in the activist community here in Tucson for decades, founding Nuclear Free State back in 1977. Grijalva was a member of that group. From nuclear power and weapons to Central American refugees to protecting the environment and creating a free clinic for migrant farmworkers, we have been there. Opposing the Gulf War parts one and two, we have been there. Now you can find me in Gabby's office, volunteering.

If there is one thing I have learned from my family, it is never to tilt at windmills. We put our effort where it can create the most positive effect in the world. Right now, with the global problems the world faces - all of them greatly exacerbated by the Republicans - much may hang on electing Gabby. Now is not the time to let the Republicans have a chance to retain this seat. One seat may be the difference on a slew of issues of global importance, with millions of lives affected. The other candidates are nice enough people. But we need to require a lot more than that to elect someone to an office of this importance.

Change the world. Vote Gabby.

Its her wish to change the party or not.She did what is wanted. May be she like the Democratic party more than Republican party. We can't say that she is not honest.now the matter is to know the reason for her decision.

It's a mini horror movie every week. Supernatural brings American urban legends into your home each episode. All those stories you told around the campfire as a child come to life in this explosive TV show. 123 movies From the exceptional writing to the awesome soundtrack, this TV show is a step above the rest. I love seeing the dynamic between the brothers, Sam and Dean. It seems that no matter what has happened in the past, family is family. I imagine this show is a production nightmare. There are so many great special effects, it's like being at your local cinema. And you can't forget that car. zmovie A '67 Impala that the brothers travel the country in. With the classic rock tunes blaring on the cassette player and the roar of the engine, this car is hot! Overall, I think Supernatural is one of the best shows on TV. My only concern is them running out of good material. watch full movies online free I mean there are only so many urban legends. However, I've heard they've got the first 3 seasons pretty much mapped out, so at least we can have a few good years, right.
