Bush May duck Tempe Debate

Bush strategist Reed hints that only 2 Preisdential debates will be accepted by the Bush campaign, and Bush campaign manager Mehlman wouldn't confirm or deny the trial balloon. One wonders if Bush ducking the Tempe debate might just suppress turnout in Maricopa enough to be the deciding factor in the AZ race?

Kerry has, of course called for a series of topical weekly Presidential debates between now and the election. Looks like the Bush camp is going turtle in an effort to hang on to its illusory post-convention bounce. Internal polling of both campaigns suggest a real lead by Bush of about 4 points. With the majority of undecideds likely to break for Kerry, the race remains about as tight as one could imagine.
