The Empire Backfires
The Empire Backfires by Jonathon Schell is a fine retrspective on the purposes, costs, and out comes of the Iraq war.If you have not read it, I strongly suugest you do so. It will put you in the cat-bird's seat next time some smarmy conservative blows hard about Bush being "strong on defense". Confront them with the reality of the war's effect on nuclear proliferation and throw in a morsel of Bush's weasel-like manuevering on cooperative threat reduction. Watching a grown person's worldview shattered is not a pretty sight, but it can be a satisfying one.
