You Ain't Got a Thing if You Ain't Got That Swing

Treasured swing voters, without whom electoral victory is nearly impossible, have turned decidedly against Bush according to polling by the Program on International Policy Attitudes. On domestic issues such as the economy, health care, environment, and energy, Bush is suffering from nearly 2:1 unfavorability ratings.

Swing voters give Bush strong negatives on his handling of Iraq ( - = 46% / + = 38%), tend to believe more strongly that he mislead us (52% of swing voters vs. 36% of the general public), and feel their confidence in the President has been undermined by those lies (52%). Most impressively, a whopping 57% say they'll vote for a Democrat in 2004, as opposed to just 32% who say they'd consider voting for Bush.

These figures point to increasing difficulty for Bush in capturing the vital political center in 2004. Voter attitudes, as opposed to pundit pap, are showing that the invincible Bush may actually be the unelectable Bush.
